PRESS CONFERENCE MARKING THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE ARTHUR JARVIS UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF TRADO-MEDICAL RESEARCH HELD ON THE 15TH OF MAY 2024 AT THE NUJ PRESS CENTRE, STATE HOUSING ESTATE, CALABAR, CROSS RIVER STATE, NIGERIA.

Distinguished members of the Press

Ladies and gentlemen.

The Arthur Jarvis University being the premier private university in Cross River State licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, commenced academic activities in 2017. This institution has grown to a population of more than 1000 students in four faculties and has graduated 4 sets of Students who have already completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

As part of our efforts to promote local content, the Governing Council of Arthur Jarvis University had approved the construction and equipping of a standard Institute of Trado-Medical Research within the University Campus. The Institute will make use of the wide range of herbs from the surrounding forest resources around the University community and the available Traditional Medical Practitioners within and around our locality to treat some of the life threatening illnesses like hemorrhoids (pile), prostate, diabetes, asthma, kidney stone, cancer, fibroid, epilepsy,  bone fracture/dislocation/setting, etc.

This action is in line with the Federal Government’s vision through the establishment of the Department of Traditional, Complimentary & Alternative Medicine (CAM) under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare as approved by the Head of Service in a letter referenced OHCSF/MSO/72/IV/132 and dated 4th April 2018. The memo has three clear mandates viz:

  • To develop, implement and monitor compliance of policies and initiate legislation relating to traditional, complimentary & alternative medicine as well as provide related services.
  • To promote development and commercialization of indigenous Nigerian Traditional Medicine
  • To integrate traditional, complimentary & alternative medicine into the national health care system.

From the academic point of view, the National University Commission (NUC) has already captured Complimentary & Alternative Medicine (CAM) among courses for Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences under the CCMAS, to train graduates on how to integrate Traditional, Complimentary & Alternative Medicine into the National Health Care System.

We are happy to announce to our community and the world at large that our well-equipped Institute of Trado-Medical Research at our University campus, in Akpabuyo LGA, Cross River State, Nigeria is open for treatment of individuals diagnosed of any of these life-threatening illnesses as mentioned earlier, while we research.

We thank the Almighty God for the enablement and pray for Gods guidance in the management of this Institute.

Long live the Arthur Jarvis University Trado-Medical Centre

Long Live the Arthur Jarvis University
