Dean's Welcome Message

The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences welcomes all stakeholders; students, staff, parents, guardians, and well-wishers to our web page. I especially thank you for your interest in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Arthur Jarvis University. The faculty’s strong commitment to teaching, research, and community involvement is demonstrated by the dedication of its members. There are so many exciting and fulfilling initiatives taking place in our faculty as we strive to achieve and maintain excellence in our missions of education, research, patient care, and service to the community. All of the programmes are created with specific goals and learning outcomes in mind, with the goal of generating biomedical science graduates who are ready for the workforce, have the necessary skills, and are capable of independent thought and creativity. A bright career in specialised medical fields as well as graduate employment are made possible by the programmes’ curricula, which are rigorous, modern, and on par with the best in the world. They also encourage a combination of intellectual abilities and hands-on training. The diverse faculty and student body and faculty exchange made our programmes earn top national and international reputation. I am confident in saying that our faculty members’ commitment to assisting our future generation of compassionate, highly qualified healthcare professionals is what truly sets them apart. The faculty is fully dedicated to training exceptional students to become proficient professionals who will transform our local and national communities by becoming skilled carers and leaders in their industries. We at the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences offer training and education for a variety of vocations in health services. The faculty has six departments, namely, the Department of Human Anatomy, the Department of Human Physiology, the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, the Department of Nursing Sciences, the Department of Optometry, and the Department of Public Health. We provide education and training for our students pursuing bachelor’s degrees. In the Department of Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Public Health, we offer Bachelor of Science degrees in Anatomy, Physiology, and Public Health, respectively. These departments prepare and equip the students in basic medical sciences and public health accordingly. The three programmes run for four years. In the Medical Laboratory Science Department, we offer a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS) that runs for five years. The undergraduate programmes in this department enhance the quality and reputation of medical education in the country through cooperation with professional regulatory body and well-recognised hospitals and the promotion of quality standards in the field of medical laboratory practice. The Department of Nursing Science offers a Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.NS) that spans five years. The undergraduate programme is structured to groom nursing graduates of global standard who have a passion for patient care, made possible by state-of-the-art medical equipment. Our Doctor of Optometry programme prepares the students for work as valuable members of the optometry health care team and for diverse career opportunities. In order to expose students to the most modern equipment and advanced treatment techniques, the department became highly equipped with updated optical technologies to meet the challenges in the optometry profession. These departments work to develop students’ critical thinking abilities and teach them how to give thoughtful assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans. Students gain an understanding of how leaders who are kind and loving can use their abilities to improve the communities in which they live through this dynamic interaction. We encourage you to visit and explore the campus and meet our faculty. We are confident that our programmes will meet your professional and scientific aspirations.
