Dr. Joseph Ekpe Edet

VICE CHANCELLOR'S PROFILE

Dr. Joseph Ekpe Edet is from Oban in Akamkpa LGA, Cross River State. He holds a first degree in law LLB, a master’s in public administration, an MPA, a master’s in law, an LLM, and a Ph.D in Constitutional and Administrative law from the University of Calabar. He equally holds certificates from the Goldsmiths’ University of London in Academic Writing and Publishing; and another in Creative and Contemporary writing. He’s a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London. He’s a corporate attorney, a serial Administrator; an International Mediator, Conciliator and Arbitrator; a Strategic Policy Adviser; a Legal scholar; a farmer, and a husband.

He served variously as Special Adviser to H. E Donald Duke on Legislative Affairs; Deputy Chief of Staff to H. E Liyel Imoke; Special Adviser on Intergovernmental Affairs; Cross River State Liaison Officer, Abuja; Special Adviser to the Governor on Mineral Resources; Special Adviser on Strategic Policy and Advisory Council (SPAC);

He is Head of, the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law and has previously been Head of, the Department of Private Law at, the University of Calabar.

He has authored three textbooks and published several articles in international peer-reviewed journals on topics such as:
– The Status of Customary Tenants in Relation to Land Held by Him: An Overview of Customary Law
– From Sovereign Immunity to Constitutional Immunity in Nigeria: Reappraising the Gains and Pitfalls
– Shaping Public Policy Through Constitutionalism: Nigeria’s Constitutional Development and the Quest for an Autochthonous Constitution
– Efficacy of Leases and Tenancies in Nigeria
– Transitional Justice in Post Con-Conflict Societies: Underscoring the Debates on Amnesty versus Victims’ Right.

He was a senatorial aspirant of the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He is a Grand Knight of the Order of the Knights of Saint Mulumba and Jerusalem and Marian Pilgrim. He is happily married to Mrs Mary-Joe Edet and is blessed with three boys.
